Major Parkinson’s sixth studio album, and the continuation of the Valesa series, is set for release on March 13, 2026.
Major Parkinsons fifth studio album marks the first chapter of the Valesa series – a densely packed double LP that carries the band into bold new sonic territory while preserving the unmistakable artistic identity that runs through their entire catalogue. Clocking in at exactly 60 minutes, its 17 tracks explore a synth-infused, surreal-nostalgic soundworld, filled with dynamic arrangements, shifting voices and the lyrical depth that has long defined the band's work. Fans and critics praised its inventiveness and emotional range, noting the vivid new colours it adds to the bands ever-evolving palette.
After Twilight Cinema, a major (but peaceful) reshuffle saw three members depart and four new musicians enter the fold, naturally reshaping the band's sound once again. Where the previous album had been flirting with darkness, Blackbox dives head-first into the abyss. Partly written and recorded in an isolated cabin perched above the dramatic Skjervsfossen waterfall near Voss, the album absorbed the intensity of its surroundings and emerged as a dark, immersive, cinematic work.
Rich electronic textures, sweeping soundscapes, and a haunting existensial undercurrent converge into a dreamlike soundworld that marks a new level of depth and cohesion for the band.
It was with Major Parkinson’s third studio album that people really started applying the label "progressive rock" on their music. Early adopters of the crowdfunding method, the band partly funded the album through a successful Indiegogo campaign. Twilight Cinema is also the Major Parkinson's first collaboration with legendary producer Yngve Sætre. Sonically, this leans into a darker and more cinematic atmosphere, with shifting moods and characters – an adventurous work that has been described as a collection of interwoven short stories. Some regard this as creative turning point for the band, where their theatrical ambitions and experimental tendencies started to fully crystallize.
With this album, Major Parkinson extends and refines the musical ideas from their 2008 debut, offering a work that is both a natural progression and a broader exploration of their developing sound. Songs from a Solitary Home introduces a heavier use of keyboards and instruments that surpass the traditional rock band setup, it became clear that Major Parkinson had no intention of staying within any genre box. With a mix of alternative and theatrical rock, this eclectic and imaginative album builds on their unique sound while leaning heavier into quirky twists, cinematic moods, and musical experimentation.
This is the band’s debut album, recorded in California after producer Sylvia Massy discovered the band on Myspace. She famously contacted them with the line: “You are my new favorite band — when can we make an awesome record?”
The album captures the band’s early high-energy theatrical rock sound, blending dark humor and storytelling with bold musical contrasts, and marked the beginning of Major Parkinson’s long and multifaceted musical journey.
